Date: November 19, 2022

Time:

Abstract submission deadline:
30 Sep 2022

Geo region/Timezone:

Abstract: The symposium will focus on a broad range of topics in molecular evolution, evolutionary genetics and adaptation, with an emphasis on studies of non-model organisms and field systems that include the incredible biodiversity of the Oriental Region. The symposium will include two components:

  • Part 1. A one-day in-person workshop in Bengaluru, India, a day before the main symposium (~50 participants). Our goal is to expose students to key concepts and methods to study molecular evolution and evolutionary genetics.
  • Part 2. A virtual symposium with three sessions: Mutational mechanisms of adaptation, Molecular evolution of gene families with respect to duplication and functional diversification, and Genetic basis of adaptations that lead to adaptive diversification and speciation in natural systems.
Invited Speakers (tentative): Jun-Yi Leu (Institute of Molecular Biology, Academia Sinica), Jun Kitano, NIG, Japan; in-person graduate student workshop on Nov 18

Organizers:
Krushnamegh Kunte and Deepa Agashe (National Centre for Biological Sciences/Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, India)
