Nominations for President-elect and 2 Councilors - due by Friday, March 9, 2024 –

Due by Friday, March 9, 2024

Dear SMBE Members,

I am writing to solicit nominations for SMBE President-Elect and 2 Councilors whose terms will begin on January 1, 2025. Each of these positions is for a duration of three years.

Council members play important roles in guiding the development of the society, soliciting and implementing programs that support our members, while enriching opportunities for young scientists from around the world. They also have a role in overseeing our two excellent journals (MBE and GBE) as well as our annual meeting, regional meetings, and satellite meetings.

Nominations will be reviewed by the nominations committee who will then put forward a slate of two candidates for each position for vote by the SMBE membership. Past and current council members are listed HERE.

Nominations (self-nominations are welcome) should consist of a brief statement in support of your suggestion (why this nomination, what the nominee can bring to SMBE, work subject, other biographical information). For Presidential nominees please include previous involvement with SMBE.

We ask the nominators to confirm explicitly that the person they are nominating has already confirmed their willingness to run for office.

Please send your nominations to Laurent Duret <laurent.duret@univ-lyon1.fr> and Emmanuelle Lerat <secretary.smbe@gmail.com> by March 9, 2024.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely yours,

Emmanuelle Lerat
Secretary of SMBE, on behalf of the Nominations Committee*

Call for Proposals to host SMBE 2026

SMBE is excited to seek proposals from Europe to host SMBE 2026 as a hybrid meeting. SMBE rotates our meetings geographically to encourage international participation. Our next meetings will be in Mexico (2024) and China (2025).

Informal expressions of interest should be from a prospective Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of scientists headed by an SMBE member, and should reach SMBE President-Elect Stephen Wright by 15 January 2014. Full proposals will need to be submitted using the SMBE template (see below) by 1 March 2024.

For details of meeting organization, please refer to the SMBE Conference Guidelines at https://www.smbe.org/smbe/MEETINGS/ConferenceGuidelines.aspx and refer to the Appendix which outlines the format of proposals.

The primary role of the Local Organizing Committee will be to plan the scientific programme, identify a venue and to select and coordinate logistics alongside a local Professional Conference Organiser (PCO).

Please note that SMBE is not interested in, and will not respond to, proposals from professional conference organizers.

We are looking forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
Stephen Wright
President-Elect, SMBE
